Already Mr. Controversy, Alvero Posts Picture With 'Neo-Confederate' Candidate
Was Clay School Board Member Aware of Rawson's Views?
Robert Alvero is making a run at being one of the most infamous elected officials in the history of Clay County. Ever since posting a video to Facebook with controversial opinions on race, Alvero has been under fire.
Recently, Alvero posed for a photo with neo-confederate and slavery apologist Marshall Clayton Rawson, a man running for the Florida State House.
Rawson lives in Hampton, Florida, just southwest of Clay County. It’s a lovely little town that makes Green Cove Springs look like a metropolis. It’s also situated in the middle of a historical hotbed of KKK and neo-nazi activity in North Florida.
Rawson is certainly doing his part to live up to the area’s troublesome heritage, and his X account gives insight into his views on a variety of topics, some of which center on his obsession with Robert E. Lee and making a case to justify chattel slavery in the United States using the Bible.
Rawson, on several occasions, debuffed critiques of slavery in the US by alluding to the Bible and stating, “God did many racisms.”

Rawson’s view of slavery mirrors that of Robert Lewis Dabney, a Presbyterian theologian in the 1800’s who was also a Confederate Army chaplain for General Stonewall Jackson.
Dabney is best known today for his staunch, unapologetic defense of racial slavery. Dabney argued that slavery was a divinely sanctioned institution, biblically justified, and beneficial to both enslavers and the enslaved.

But Rawson’s controversial views don’t stop with slavery; he also believes gay people should be put to death.
Rawson’s views on African Americans are also laid bare via his X account.

Mush all of these views together, and you begin to see why Rawson also pushes for a “National Divorce,” which is a modern-day twist on the old idea of Southern states seceding from the United States.
Proponents of the concept argue that the Southern and Northern parts of the country can no longer peacefully co-exist due to differing morals and politics.
Alvero’s post was from a recent Florida State Guard training exercise. Both Alvero and Rawson volunteer in the Florida State Guard.
The Florida State Guard is a paramilitary force that is under the total control of the Governor of Florida. Unlike the Florida National Guard, it cannot be mobilized by the Federal Government.
It is unclear if Alvero was aware of Rawson’s views, but it isn’t a good look for a School Board member under fire for his own controversial comments and facing mounting calls for his resignation.

Josh - you are getting ridiculous. Do you have a secret crush on Alvero? Seriously you are becoming obsessed. Tell us, have you served in any military branch? Tell us about your military service. These posts and stories are getting petty.
Does the Florida Guard actually allow its members to publicly promote the killing of LGBTQ people??? That goes wayyy past free speech. I thought there objective was to protect all citizens.
