Alvero And Hughes Top Two School Board Candidates
The Candidates Will Go Head To Head On The November Ballot
Four candidates entered the race, and two emerged from Tuesday’s primary. Robert Alvero and James Hughes received the most votes of the four candidates vying for the seat.
Alvero topped Hughes by 1,563 votes but didn’t reach the threshold of 50% plus one vote to avoid a runoff. Alvero and Hughes will face off on the November 5th general election ballot.
Matthew Mitchell, the last candidate to enter the race, came in third. Mitchell’s deep connections in the county and deep field of endorsements propelled him to within a percentage point of second place. Given his age and long list of accomplishments, many believe this won’t be the last time Mitchell is a prominent voice in Clay County.
Sharon Flowers, a newcomer to county politics, rounded out the field, garnering an impressive 22% of votes cast.
Now that the primary is over, voters have 11 weeks to decide between Alvero and Hughes. The deadline to register to vote in the general election is October 7th.
So proud of Robert and so happy for Clay County. No one worked as hard as Robert and no one I trust more with my Granddaughter than Robert. I am so excited for the Spanish Speaking residents that they have voice and can be heard and understood. This will be huge!!
This is an account pushing for Moms for Liberty candidates! Robert has not won to date, he will be in a run off with James Hughes a much more qualified candidate for the position.
