Anejo Cocina Brings Competition For Mexican Food In The 'Burg
Come For The Ambiance, Stay For The Guacamole
Some new restaurants are popping up in our county. Over on Branan Field, across from the hospital, the new Clay Town Center is coming to life. Besides a new mattress store, we are gaining some new places to dine. Anejo Cocina opened recently. My first thought was, “We really need ANOTHER Mexican restaurant? We already have Salsas and La Catrina!” Anejo is quite fancy, which brings some exciting atmosphere to our little hometown.
The vibes in here are different than those of its competitors in the Burg. Regional Mexican music is still playing in the background. The wait staff wear aprons like those in fancy restaurants.
We visited on a Sunday after church. When we arrived, it wasn’t too busy. Soon after, the place began to fill up. We started with chips, salsas, and queso. These tasted no different than anyone else’s.
But the guacamole! This is made fresh and so much better than the competition. I wish I had a picture of the menu. The print is very small. So you might need to bring your reading glasses in order to order!

Here are some of the things we ordered: Birria Burrito and Birria Quesadilla, both of which include 24-hour slow-cooked, shredded beef. Steak Puebla: Steak served with a poblano pepper stuffed with shrimp, peppers, mushrooms, and onions. Topped with poblano pesto sauce. The food is great, but the price matches the ambiance.
