If I’m understanding correctly, the flow of water can be influenced by many artificial factors such a narrowing of an area(such as pipes, ditches or culverts), also slopes or gradients in particular those leading down to a pump, can all artificially increase the flow velocity thus kicking on the pumps during low water levels. There seems to be no transparency when asking questions on what is being done to protect Black creek. I feel a project on this scale needs constant research and monitoring and those running it should also be held at a certain standard. We have a lot to lose if we fail Black creek!
I think overall the project seems good. I mean if we had this during Irma, it wouldn't have saved all Black Creek residents, but it would have mitigated some of the damage. I also think when you keep stuffing the state full of people, you drain the aquifer and that's a problem. Clay's population since 1984, when I moved here as a Navy Brat was a third of what it is now. I think it rained more and few people even had irrigation systems. We act like water is a never-ending resource in Florida. Now, should they be pumping water out of the creek when the water levels are low? No, of course not. Sure, seems like that's a dumb idea, whether there's a flow figure or not. The pipeline breaking is super lame too, I mean come on, we had a failure that quick?!!
