Clay GOP 'Freedom Rally' Postponed Amid Turmoil in Congress
Several scheduled speakers are unable to appear as Congress will be in session for the next 45 days
It has been an eventful couple of weeks in Washington, DC. The Federal government, particularly the House of Representatives, has been busy averting a government shutdown. Just today, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy made history as the first Speaker of the House to be ousted via a motion, which came from Florida Representative Matt Gaetz.
Despite being more than 700 miles away, the activities in the Nation's Capitol are creating ripple effects in Clay County. The Clay County Republican Party's annual 'Freedom Rally' was scheduled for Saturday, October 7th. Among the speakers slated for the event were Kat Cammack, Aaron Bean, and Michael Waltz, all of whom are members of Congress. Part of the deal brokered to avoid a government shutdown was the requirement that Congress stay in session for the next 45 days to work towards a long-term budget deal.
Unfortunately for the Clay Republicans, the 45-day working session will prevent Cammack, Bean, and Waltz from appearing at the Freedom Rally. In response, the event has been postponed to a date yet to be determined. The Clay County Republican Party leadership issued the following statement to Clay News & Views:
"Several of our speakers are being required to stay in Washington.
Although the GOP has averted a government shutdown, our legislators will be in DC for an additional 45 days to continue fighting for this GREAT country.
We are working now to find an alternate date to hold this important event, and we will notify everyone when we have that date.
In the meantime, if you've purchased ticket(s), we can either refund your money or honor your payment for the rescheduled event.
On behalf of the guest speakers and your Clay GOP, we sincerely apologize but want to make sure you get the best Rally.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Any questions please feel free to contact Rhonda Jett-Chairman at chairman@clayrepublicans.com or 904-557-5428"
Once a date is announced, Clay News & Views will post an updated story with the full details.
