Wanted: Writers and Reviewers To Cover Clay's Vibrant Restaurant Scene
Fifteen months ago, Clay News & Views was launched by a small group of volunteers who saw a gaping hole in the coverage of news in Clay County. Since then we have published dozens of stories about important issues and backroom political shenanigans.
We’ve also published stories about local history, and every once in a while some funny stuff.
Now, we’re looking for volunteers to cover the local restaurant scene. Clay County’s gastronomic scene may not be Charleston or New Orleans—certainly not yet—but there’s a lot going on, and some of it is pretty exciting.
We’re looking for a special person or persons who can report on who’s coming and who’s going in the Clay County dining scene. Also, we want someone who will write restaurant reviews. Maybe, one person can do both. Maybe, these jobs can be divided among a small group of thoughtful folks.
Call us crazy, but we’ve got pretty high standards for a writer who—like us—won’t make a dime from the job.
The right person will be independent minded and a frequent diner. Your culinary expertise need not be anywhere near Anthony Bordain-level, but you must have a keen understanding of what makes for an outstanding dining experience and what detracts from that. You must be able to distinguish between a place good for a family with kids and one that would be just right for a first date.
You must be fairminded and kind because, Lord knows, running a restaurant ain’t easy. Having said that, you would also be ready to share constructive criticism with your readers. And if an eatery is so bad as to be past redemption, know that we probably won’t publish anything at all about it and let nature run its course.
What would you, our restaurant person or people, get out of this? You would get the satisfaction of providing an important service to our community. And you would be assured that your work would be edited and presented professionally. We are used to working with folks who are not experienced writers. We promise to help make your prose sing!
Maybe, this kind hobby job isn’t for you. But if you know anyone who might be game for a stint as a volunteer journalist, please share this notice with them.
