Former Fleming Island Wrestling Coach P.J. Cobbert License Revoked
Cobbert Was Accused Of Sexual Misconduct By A Former Student
Paul James “P.J.” Cobbert can no longer coach high school wrestling in Florida. Late last year, the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) revoked Cobbert’s coaching license.
Cobbert was once the darling of the Florida high school wrestling scene. A star wrestler in the early 2000’s at Clay High, his career landed him a spot in the Florida High School Wrestling Hall of Fame. Cobbert went on to be an assistant coach at Clay High School and later took the helm of the wrestling program at Fleming Island High School.
But in 2025, Clay News & Views uncovered serious allegations of sexual misconduct between Cobbert and a former wrestler he coached.
Unfortunately for the victim, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was unable to charge Cobbert as the statute of limitations had already passed.
Despite the fallout from the allegations, Cobbert continued to try to control the Fleming Island High wrestling team from his personal gym in Green Cove Springs. But eventually the allegations were too much for Cobbert to survive, and he resigned from his coaching position and closed his gym.
Though he avoided criminal charges, an investigation by the Florida Department of Education found enough evidence of wrongdoing to revoke Cobbert’s coaching license.
In November of 2025, Clay News & Views requested the full investigation file from the FLDOE, but that request has not yet been fulfilled. We will update that story once we have received the file.

Will be waiting for that update, for more information .
