High-Paying Company Building Its HQ in Green Cove
Pragmatic Works, an Information-Tech Training Firm, in Post-Pandemic Growth Spurt
An online IT training company called Pragmatic Works has begun building its headquarters in Green Cove Springs, where it expects to employ 40 people whose average annual wage is $108,000, according to company founder Brian Knight.
The parcel on North Orange Avenue (Highway 17) is a little bigger than an acre with frontage on Governor’s Creek. According to the Clay County Appraisers Office, the land is worth $600,000.
The official groundbreaking is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 4, but in fact work at the site has already begun. Construction of the three-story building is expected to take 18 months.
Knight told the Jacksonville Business Review that the move from its current location in a Fleming Island office park will allow him to expand from 30 to 40 employees.
Knight said two trends have benefitted the Pragmatic Works business model: The acceptance of virtual training steming from the Covid-19 pandemic and the shortage of dedicated information technology staff, commonly referred to by initials IT. Here’s what Knight told the Business Review:
You are seeing all these companies hire their project managers, their business analysts to get that skill that would typically be done by an IT developer. You still need those developers for the hard applictions. Because the industry is so burdened to find those people, it’s pushing the knowledge base down to a level to where anybody can build that stuff.
