After Renninger ran his mouth about “unless you served 26 years in the Navy, I don’t want to hear you”, the audacity of this self righteous jerk?! Goes to show that serving 26 years doesn’t make you a good man! Statistically, most guys that have spent 26 years in the NAVY or more are abusive alcoholics so Mr. Renninger, care to APOLOGIZE?! You and Burke are just bad for this County. ((Go ARMY!))
Wow, he does not seem to understand that only 100% disabled veterans got the total exemption. Being fully disabled while serving this nation does not seem to be enough for him. Just being a vet gets you zip zero zilch and being 10-90% disabled gets you an extra $5K to your exemption you still pay your non ad valorem.
The people of Clay County will have no idea who actually pay the stormwater tax. The so-called mitigation credit system is ill-defined and subjective. Some people will pay and others (with better inside connections) will be excused from paying. This has been the case in Green Cove Springs, where only 46% of the properties pay the usage tax, while newer developments were given a big break, even though all property owners will end up fixing their stormwater infrastructure once it begins to fail.
The School Board will pay nothing, even though they have an oversized impact on the stormwater system.
In GCS we have found that sites that have no impact at all on the City Stormwater system, were assessed over-sized assessments.
Our government employees at the municipal and County levels do not have the intellectual skill-set to fairly administer the complex stormwater tax system concocted by the consultants who developed the program.
In a few years, everybody will hate the stormwater tax system.
In the meantime, VOTE YES on Amendment 3 to begin the process of weeding out the governmente staff who put programs like this in front of the Commission.
Great article highlighting how we got to this vote. More people need to pay mind to the why and when instead of panicking at the finish line. We were warned this was happening.
Particularly disappointed in Sgromolo. Burke and Renninger were pretty much a known. Perhaps a good followup article would be to track the exact locations of the Proposed Capital Projects and attach them to the commissioner. Overall last night's meeting showed a complete lack of respect for the voters.
The outgoing chairperson was disappointingly rude and demeaning toward the frustrated but mostly well-informed and earnest constituents. And whether ‘well-informed’ or not, these folks were attempting to be heard, really heard. Not an easy situation for anyone involved, but show respect and compassion for them, regardless.

He actually said that? I’m going to listen to the meeting…. That’s just strange.
Too bad Data center engineers cant figure out how to utilize all the storm water run off….
Data centers would bring huge bucks to our county…
They can even use nuclear energy…
I'm for Data centers.
All members stayed for the entire 8+hour meeting.
The chair is just awful to the people. Shame on disrespecting We The People! She needs to stop with the snide back talk. Yuck…
It is too bad the county hasn’t been on top of our failing storm water systems.
