Also, as you have reported the Clay school board verbalized they want them in school zones to get more money.

Agree. A money-making scam. These cameras are even worse all over Europe. Everywhere on the roads taking paictures for even mild speeding. $$$$$ Nothing but for money.

This is very true. In Germany, they would have these independent contractors set up speed traps in random locations daily and they would essentially make a living making money off of the fines that they would assess to drivers. The police were not involved unless an excessive speed was recorded. For whatever reason, they would announce the locations over local public radio to warn locals but Americans, most not fluent in German, would be oblivious to all of this.

It was always a good idea to watch how the locals drive and if you saw them putting on their brakes suddenly, it would be wise to slow down and do the same as you could never tell if a speeding camera was hiding in the brush along side the road.

That being said, the cities should be focused on the crazies out there who bob and weave through traffic and truly create a hazard on the road rather than try to collect revenue from people who misjudge the traffic light timing who would otherwise not pose a danger to other drivers. The green light for the cross traffic is generally delayed for a second or two anyhow to out of caution to prevent eager drivers waiting on red from colliding with drivers who misjudged their light when it turns red.
