Mix It Up With Sabor Mix Ceviche & Grill
If you like Peruvian cuisine, this is the place for you. Sabor Mix Ceviche & Grill opened in July of 2024. They are near Academy Sports in Orange Park next to Panera Bread. I have heard some good reviews about the establishment in What Clay REALLY Eats.
My husband and I have never had Peruvian food before. We eat at Panera next door often and decided to try it out one day. The atmosphere is quite nice.

I was tempted to try a ceviche dish until I learned that it is raw fish “cooked” in lime juice. Sorry, Clay County friends, you will never get a review from me about raw anything. But our waitress said that all of the ceviche dishes are recommended. The descriptions in the menu make them sound like a tasty, refreshing meal.
Here is what we ordered: Tostones A La Huancaina - mashed green plantains fried with huancaina sauce, avocado and cheese (sprinkled for garnish). They were good but plain. I think the sauce needed something more like salt.
Chi Jau Kay boneless fried chicken with with Chifa sauce and Chaufa (fried rice). The flavors were pretty good in this dish. The fried chicken was soft, probably from sitting in the sauce.
Lomo A lo Pabre - tenderloin, onions, tomatoes, fries, 2 fried eggs and sweet plantains and rice. This was my husbands dish. He doesn’t do tomatoes. He said it was lacking something as well. His dish seemed like it needed more sauce.

Overall, we would give it another try. Considering we visited for lunch, the prices are crazy. Our appetizer, 2 dishes, and 2 sodas cost over $60! It was a lot of food, mostly rice, for that price!
