Vogel Defeats Hilt For Orange Park Town Council
Keystone Heights Voted To Change The Town's Airport Authority
The lone municipal seat up for grabs this election cycle was decided on Tuesday, April 9th. Kenneth Vogel defeated Madison Hilt in the Orange Park Town Council Seat 4 race.
Vogel tallied nearly 75% of the votes in what can only be described as a decisive victory. Hilt was defeated despite being the only candidate who outlined a clear legislative agenda that opposed the town’s red light cameras and advocated for ambitious projects like reviving rail transportation in the town.
Down in Keystone Heights, a mail-in-only election was held to decide the fate of “Charter Amendment Number One.” The amendment changes the makeup of the town’s Airport Authority. It removes a requirement that one of the seats on the authority’s board be held by a member of the Florida National Guard and replaces it with a ‘city seat’ that can be filled by someone from the Keystone Heights area.
The measure passed, with the yes votes totaling 61% of the ballots cast. Clay County's next elections are slated for August 20th, when primaries for local races will be decided.
