Clay County finalized a $1.6 million CCSO renovation contract in May 2026, three weeks before disclosing a projected $44.5 million General Fund deficit.
First, I'm in the wrong line of work clearly. Second, maybe the CCSO can now put the Flock Contract to good use since they won't be spying on us anymore. And thirdly, bring on Amendment 3 BABY! DeSantis is exactly correct, if we pay property taxes, we are paying rent to the government for our own property. Clay has not pitched in for any of my mortgage payments. Find another way to fund the government. This county spends way too much money for what it has to show. They can't even get kids reliably back to their homes from public schools without doing double bus trips. Think about that. We can't fund enough school bus drivers to get all the kids home in one trip, but we can afford Flock cameras, pricey renos and even the school board has way more cars than it needs but can't perform the very basic operations. Crazy!
This is just another example of fraud, waste, and abuse with public officials in Clay county. Between the corrupt commissioners who voted to impose a storm water fee on residents to a spend-happy sheriff, we really need to bring back responsible spending. These people have no respect for their constituents.
On another note, I find it odd how some people state that they are planning to vote Yes on the amendment to eliminate property taxes fully knowing what sort of pain it will cause them in the long term. It's like a person eyeing a giant bag of Doritos knowing that gobbling the whole thing down in one go will probably not be the healthiest choice but doing so anyway for the short-term enjoyment. People just can't resist to get rid of all taxes even at their own peril, fully knowing that worse county fees that will cost them more in the long-run through a death of a thousand paper cuts.
If the amendment passes, expect more red light cameras, speed traps, unfair rate and fee hikes on everything from additional storm water fee increases to miscellaneous and extreme rate hikes on things like building permits and increased public library and school fees (student parking, extracurricular clubs, etc) and the like.
